How many times have you seen ‘click here’ links in article resources or even within web content? It’s almost as though the writer assumes that people aren’t terribly familiar with the whole idea of hyperlinks, and wouldn’t know where to click otherwise.
But it’s more important than grossly underestimating the technological capabilities of visitors, because by using bland words such as ‘click here’ you’re missing out on a massive opportunity to generate keyword anchor text.
The search engines place great weight on the words used in the links themselves, so by using your keywords or keyphrase as the link to your site you significantly boost the effectiveness of those links in your overall search engine optimisation endeavours.
So if your keyword phrase is ‘water soluble umbrella’ then use that phrase as your link text. Of course, if your website happens to be clickhere.com you might not have to worry so much!
